More than 250 people attended the annual Literacy Tea on Sunday, April 6th at John Bapst Memorial High School. Volunteer designers decorated more than 30 tables using different children’s books as themes. Maine children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Dusen read his book The Circus Ship to an audience of children, their parents, and other book lovers.

The Literacy Tea is Literacy Volunteers of Bangor’s major fundraiser. This year’s Tea raised nearly $8,000 in revenues and more than $4,500 of in-kind support. Literacy Volunteers raises 100% of its annual budget and is slated to help a record number of adults with literacy barriers–more than 300 this fiscal year.
