AUGUSTA, Maine — Lipman & Katz, P.A. is proud to announce the recent promotion of two top attorneys into new leadership roles. Karen E. (Lipman) Boston and Melissa Reynolds O’Dea will co-manage the prestigious Water Street firm.
Boston and O’Dea will combine their prior collective experiences to jointly manage the firm and be responsible for marketing, human resources, business management and coordination of the firm’s nine attorneys, team of paralegals and office staff.
“I have the utmost confidence in Attorneys Boston and O’Dea. As founding partner of Lipman & Katz and as a lawyer myself, I am proud to have two such bright and experienced attorneys with whom to entrust my life’s work. I’m sure that they will lead the firm with integrity for many years to come,” said Founder and former Managing Partner Sumner H. Lipman
Lipman has worked closely with Boston and O’Dea over the past year to prepare them to take over the daily management of the firm. Lipman will eventually retire but until that time he will remain heavily involved in the inner-workings of the firm, continue to practice law, and act as an advisor to Boston and O’Dea.
“I look forward to working more closely with Attorneys Boston and O’Dea,” said firm partner Roger J. Katz, in a press release. “They have proved to be valuable assets and are both extremely capable lawyers. I have no doubt that they will apply the same diligence to their management roles as they do to their client work.”
With nearly seventeen years of experience, Boston has represented hundreds of people in difficult situations in her practice of family law, criminal law, personal injury and medical negligence. She has served as a past chair of the Maine State Bar Association’s Family Law Section as well as as vice chair and secretary.
O’Dea is a former Maine assistant attorney general, a position in which she handled complex litigation and earned national recognition for her leading role in facilitating a national settlement with tobacco companies that continues to bring millions of dollars to Maine every year. Before joining Lipman & Katz, O’Dea was a partner at O’Dea Woodman in Augusta.
Partner David M. Lipman also shares a vote of confidence in the firm’s new co-management team “Boston and O’Dea bring a combined 35 years of courtroom experience to the table. They know this business inside and out, and they work extremely well together,” said Lipman.
