BANGOR, Maine – Boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to a four-night flag football camp featuring prominent area coaches as guest speakers. These coaches include Maine Black Bears Head Coach Jack Cosgrove, Husson Eagles Head Coach Gabby Price, Husson Eagles Assistant Coach and former Bangor High School Coach Fred Lower.
The Lion of Judah football camp will be held 5-7 p.m. Aug. 5-8, at Glad Tidings Church, 1033 Broadway.
Camp Director Dan Smith, of Glad Tidings Church, was a devoted football player in high school. Dan, together with Coach Mike Karnas (former NFL youth director) will lead the boys and girls in stretches, proper warm-up techniques, a variety of drills, scrimmages, and then a big game on the final night. The camp is inspired by Coach Karnas, who has led many similar camps over the years, teaching kids about football and the love of God. “Although no tackling is involved,” Smith says, “the boys and girls will learn NFL techniques. They’ll learn a lot, but we really want them to have fun.” Each night will feature a guest speaker from the aforementioned list of well-known area football coaches. Nightly, participants will also take part in a brief, inspirational Bible lesson.
Parents may drop their children off each night or bring lawn chairs and watch the action! On the final night, there will be a closing cookout for all the players and their parents.
The Lion of Judah Football camp is just $20 per child which includes a t-shirt and the final cookout. Parents are encouraged to register their children in advance. Forms can be obtained by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 947-0324, ext 15. www.facebook.com/gtcbangor
