EASTPORT, Maine — The Labor of Love Nutrition Center will offer “Intro to Home Canning” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, in The Labor of Love’s Teaching Kitchen, 137 County Road.

Alan Majka from University of Maine Cooperative Extension will partner with Anne S. Hopkins to teach the basics of safe food handling when canning low sugar blueberry jam. To pre-register please email or call Anne Hopkins at LaborofLoveKitchen@gmail.com or 853-0812.

The Labor of Love will be opening its doors 5-8 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 14-Oct. 30, to provide a beautiful facility with all the equipment needed to preserve your food. Whether you’d like to use the commercial range for home canning, the vacuum sealer for freezing fruits and veggies or the food processor for fermentation, the facility will be open for your home food preservation. Please bring your own ingredients and jars for preserving; most other equipment is available on site; drop-ins are welcomed.
