PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine families are invited to join Kohl’s Department Stores and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine for a free family fun day to celebrate the kickoff of the Kohl’s Vax Kids campaign.
During the event, Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center will be presented with a nearly $80,000 grant from Kohl’s Cares® to create and implement a social marketing campaign — Kohl’s Vax Kids — in York and Cumberland counties. The campaign aims to increase awareness about the necessity of childhood vaccination to maintain child health and motivate parents to discuss vaccination with their child’s physician. Kohl’s Vax Kids will target parents of young children, focusing on the necessity of vaccines and addressing the use of alternative schedules.
“We’re grateful to have this partnership with Kohl’s Cares to support the children of Cumberland and York counties in receiving necessary vaccinations,” said Jane Ho, M.D., of Maine Medical Partners – Pediatrics, in a press release. “MaineHealth has a vision of helping Maine become the healthiest state in the nation. What better place to start than with our state’s youth and ensuring that they’re protected against unnecessary illnesses and serious diseases.”
The event will also feature a number of activities and demonstrations for families and children, including:
- “Mr. Bear goes to the doctor” demonstration
- “Let’s play in the dirt! All about hand washing” activity
- “Let’s learn!” story time about what it’s like to get a checkup at the doctor’s office
- Face painting
- Parent education stations on childhood immunization, car seat safety, helmet safety, breastfeeding and more.
Since 2005, Kohl’s has donated nearly $650,000 to The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Other BBCH initiatives supported through Kohl’s Cares have included the hospital’s Trauma Prevention Program.
Kohl’s commitment to Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one.
