Katie Dzurec-Dunton joins Maine Community Health Options team

LEWISTON, Maine — Kevin Lewis, CEO of Maine Community Health Options (MCHO), announced that Katie Dzurec-Dunton, JD, MPA, has joined the organization as director, compliance and regulatory affairs.

MCHO is a not-for-profit that will provide affordable health insurance to Maine people and small businesses beginning in January 2014. The enrollment start date for the plan is Oct. 1. Organized as a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP), MCHO’s mission is to provide high-quality benefits that promote health and well-being.

Dzurec-Dunton has extensive healthcare reform implementation experience. Before joining MCHO, she worked for the Center on Health Insurance Reforms at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute as an assistant research professor. In her previous position, Dzurec-Dunton consulted with a number of states to implement the Affordable Care Act. Her earlier experience includes serving as outreach and communications director at the Maine Bureau of Insurance and as an aide to the Maine Legislature.

Dzurec-Dunton obtained her Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine. She has a law degree from University of Oregon School of Law, and a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from University of Oregon. She is an at-large board member for the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging.

Dzurec-Dunton lives in Farmingdale with her husband and daughter.

Maine Community Health Options is a Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) created through a program of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). MCHO is a private, nonprofit entity governed by a customer-based Board of Directors, which gives enrollees a strong voice in the management and development of the plan.
