— “Common Core: Dangers and Threats to American Liberty, and How to Stop It,” 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Our Fathers Place, 276 Main St, St. Agatha, and 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Governor’s Restaurant, 350 Main St., Presque Isle. Hal Shurtleff, New England coordinator of The John Birch Society, will discuss dangers to liberty and education stemming from Common Core, a new plan to nationalize education standards.
— “Dangers of an Article V Convention,” 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Horn Restaurant, 382 North Road, Houlton. Hal Shurtleff, New England coordinator of The John Birch Society, will discuss his opposition to a potential Article V Convention, one of two procedures for proposing amendments to the United States Constitution.
