For the season’s 6th concert, Jazz pianist Kent Hewitt will be performing on Wednesday, July 18th at 7:30 p.m.
Pianist/composer Kent Hewitt is happy to be returning for an 8th season to Summerkeys. This year he performed with cabaret vocalists Barbara Slater and Diane Carey at the prestigious Providence Music Mansion, Blithwold, and the Hartford Wadsworth Atheneum. He teaches jazz piano privately and recently performed with his trio throughout New England, including appearances for the US Coast Guard Academy, Watch Hill’s Ocean House, New London’s Jazz Underground Café and Newport’s Chandler Resort.
For his solo piano concert, Mr. Hewitt will perform the music of Henry Mancini featured in the films Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Days Of Wine And Roses, The Pink Panther, and Moment To Moment. There will also be music by Mancini from the historic TV series Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky. In the second set Mr. Hewitt will play modern jazz interpretations inspired by legendary pianist Keith Jarrett, notably from Jarrett’s recording At The Deer Head Inn, as well as his own version of the catchy 1959 Dave Brubeck/ Paul Desmond hit “Take Five”.
This concert will be upstairs in Lubec’s Congregational Christian Church, 7:30 p.m., with intermission refreshments provided by Fisherman’s Wharf and Shop By The Sea. Concerts are free, but piano-tuning donations are always welcome. For all things SummerKeys, visit summerkeys.com, call 207-733-2316, or e-mail email@example.com
