DEER ISLE — Dr. Lisa Lesko joined the Island Nursing Home in Deer Isle as medical director on Feb. 20.
Dr. Lesko is a specialist in family medicine in the Blue Hill Family Medicine practice, a department of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She will continue seeing patients in Blue Hill while serving as the medical director at Island Nursing Home.
Dr. Lesko has a long-standing interest in providing care to older people and helping to provide a quality of life that meets their medical, as well as human, needs. She is dedicated to providing holistic care that is respectful and sensitive, and she deeply understands the realities the residents are facing.
Dr. Lesko received her M.D. from the State University of NY (SUNY)/Health Science Center at Stony Brook in 1996, where she also completed a three-year residency in family medicine, and was chief resident in her final year. She joined the practice at Blue Hill Family Medicine in August 1996, where she has practiced ever since.
Dr. Lesko succeeds Dr. Susan Ostertag who has been the medical director at Island Nursing Home since 2007. Dr. Ostertag was a skillful teacher and provided high quality and compassionate medical care to the residents during her time here. She will be traveling to Nepal and Bhutan over the next two months, and then plans to spend some quality time in her gardens.
Island Nursing Home has 70 residents and serves the Blue Hill peninsula and Deer Isle. It is the largest employer on Deer Isle.
