BANGOR, Maine — The American Diabetes Association (http://www.diabetes.org/) will host an informational Bikes & Brews session for this year’s Kennebunks Tour de Cure bicycling event 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Paddy Murphy’s pub on Main Street.
Representatives will discuss specifics of the Kennebunks Tour de Cure, and free appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Bikes & Brews attendees will have chances to win prizes including bike gear. People interested in becoming riders, volunteers or even both are welcome.
The Kennebunks Tour de Cure (www.diabetes.org/kennebunkstourdecure) will be held Sunday, June 8, starting at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm. Tours, which are routed through the Kennebunks and some surrounding towns, range in length from a 5K fun ride through 25K, 50K, 100K and 100-mile options. All rides loop back to finish at Wells Reserve at Laudholm.
Money raised from the Tour de Cure supports the ADA mission of seeking to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Nearly 26 million people in the United States have diabetes. The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to stop diabetes and its deadly consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
This year’s fundraising goal of the Kennebunks Tour de Cure is $450,000. The ADA invests millions of dollars in New England, including the Jackson Lab research facility in Bar Harbor, Maine, and the Joslin Diabetes Centers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
