Holden girl advances to Elks National Hoop Shoot Finals

BANGOR, Maine – Thirteen-year-old Crystal Bell, sponsored by Bangor Elks Lodge 244, received two awards during the March 22 Elks Association New England Hoop Shoot competition in Portland.

First, she won the New England Regional “Hoop Shoot” championships award for most foul shots made in the girls ages 12-13 division.

Secondly, she won the Outstanding Shooter Award for making the most free throws, with 22 of 25 shots, of all girls competing in the New England competition.

Crystal will join another New England Regional winner from Maine, Alexa Eaton of Brunswick (girls ages 10-11 division), and the winners of the other four divisions (girls 8-9 and boys 8-9, 10-11, 12-13) from other New England States at the National Hoop Shoot Finals. The Elks Hoop Shoot is the largest youth free-throw contest in the with more than 3 million participants. Participants must compete and win at the local, district, State, and Regional competitions to advance to the National Finals. The top shooters for each age division from the 12 Regions within the will compete at the Nationals.

She is the daughter of Calvin and Jackie Bell of Holden and plans to attend in next year.

The National Hoop Shoot Finals will be held at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts from April 10-13.
