Anglers Restaurant has been helping students from 14 schools raise money for their respective schools through selling raffle tickets at the boys and girls varsity basketball games for a half-court shot.
Each school has chosen ticket prices and selling details, and the schools keep all profits associated.
At halftime, a winner’s name is drawn and the person three chances to make a half court shot. If successful, the winner receives a $100 gift certificate to Anglers Restaurant.
Ryan Nickerson, general manager of the Newport Anglers, contacted 30 different schools in Waldo, Penobscot, Hancock, Somerset, Kennebec and Piscataquis counties. Participating schools are: Dexter Regional High School, Bucksport High School, Stearns High School, Old Town High School, Searsport District High School, Nokomis Regional High School, Penobscot Valley High School, Hermon High School, Belfast Area High School, Mattanawcook High School, Hampden Academy, Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Mt. View High School and Katahdin High School.
Winners of $100 gift certificates thus far this season are Lindsay Burton and Paul Shaw at Dexter High School; Alyss Crooker and Emmett Shell at Mt. View High School; Dale Hutus at Searsport District High School and Scott Hartsgrove at Nokomis Regional High School.
