PITTSFIELD, Maine – Country Creations can’t be easily categorized. It’s part gallery, part gift shop, and it’s certainly an experience to be in the shop.

Owner Corrina Marcoux sells primitive décor. She consigns Swarovski crystal jewelry. She sells her husband Marc’s homemade fudge while he works full time as a physics and chemistry teacher at Lawrence High School. There are locally made birch picture frames and furnishings for sale. She sells braided rugs and curtains. She sells wedding crystal. Consignment items like handmade scarves, cards, and candles come from artisans in Corinna, Canaan, Pittsfield, and Palmyra.
Country Creations gift shop in the Somerset Plaza has been selected by the Heart of Pittsfield for their June “Business Spotlight.”
Four years ago, Corrina bought the business from former owners Christy and Mack Moore with whom she had worked for seven years. Because the Moores lived in Island Falls, Corrina said they “gave me total freedom to do whatever I saw fit to benefit the business. They trusted me completely, and I never gave them cause to regret giving me their trust.”
When the Moores were ready to move on, Corrina bought the business. Never looking back, Corrina said, “Anyone that has ever owned a business understands just how much work it takes,” so “passion for what you are doing is a must!”
Corrina said she is commonly asked how things are going in this economy. “My response is and will always be the same: I am thankful for every purchase that is made, from a 99 cent greeting card to a $99 item. And I mean that.”
Corrina acknowledges the power of personal connection. “Each and every person that …walks through my door is a gift.” She knows that if a customer leaves with a good feeling, that customer will return. “And that is what makes or breaks a business,” she said, “Not how much a customer purchases on a given day, but if they want to come back.”
Corrina said that though she has some wonderful Pittsfield customers, most are from other towns. She hopes that the Heart of Pittsfield’s focus on supporting local business will encourage more locals to begin to shop locally including at Country Creations.
