AUBURN, Maine — Clifton Greim, P.E., president of Harriman, along with Kathy Loftus, national energy manager of Whole Foods, will be presenting at the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association’s BuildingEnergy 14 conference and trade show in Boston this month.
Greim and Loftus will be presenting on the cost effectiveness of fuel cell technology when applied to commercial buildings. A fuel cell, likened to a continuous 24/7 battery, burns no fuel as it converts chemical energy directly into electrical energy with high efficiency and low emissions of pollutants.
Harriman and Whole Foods have collaborated on multiple projects including the Whole Foods location in Glastonbury, Connecticut where a key component of the store’s energy efficiency and progressive technology is its 200-kilowatt fuel cell – the first fuel cell to power a grocery store in America.
The BuildingEnergy 14 conference and trade show runs March 4-6, at Seaport World Trade Center in Boston. BuildingEnergy is the most established, most cross-disciplinary renewable energy and high-performance building conference and trade show in the northeastern United States. Clifton Greim, P.E., serves as President of Harriman Architects + Engineers and is a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono. For more than three decades he led Harriman’s mechanical engineering department and has been responsible for developing many innovative and energy-efficient systems that incorporate leading-edge technology for a wide range of projects regionally and nationally. Considered an expert in his field, Clif has lectured extensively about renovating and updating mechanical systems for energy efficiency and has authored numerous articles appearing in national magazines.
