The great blue heron will be the subject of a talk presented by the Hampden Garden Club on March 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room at the Hampden Town Office.
Wildlife biologist Danielle D’Auria will discuss the great blue heron and the work of the Heron Observation Network of Maine, a volunteer group formed in 2009 to monitor heron breeding colonies to determine the condition of the heron population in Maine. In addition to observation on the ground, it is hoped that enough funds will be raised to finance an aerial survey in 2015 to provide a more precise count of the colonies.
