Growing, Preserving and Cooking with Lavender

Herbalist Betsy-Ann Golon will lead a presentation on growing, preserving, and cooking with lavender at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, May 21 at 12:00 noon.

Lavender is among the most popular flowering herbs, renowned for its aromatic and culinary uses. Golon will teach guests the best cultivation methods for this herb, including which varieties fit Midcoast gardens. She will also expand upon ways to dry and preserve lavender, as well as the herb’s many uses in the kitchen. From baking and jellies to Sunday roasts, lavender is a versatile, beautiful, and delicious ingredient to home cooking.

Golon operates Common Folk Farm with her family in Naples, Maine. In addition to growing herbs, teas, and flowers, she also works with Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester. She has taught gardening and herbalism classes all over New England and has presented at the Common Ground Fair, Fryeberg Fair, and many flower shows across the state.

This lecture is part of the Spring Talk Series at Merryspring, sponsored by The First.
