In a struggling economy many families are challenged to meet the basic needs for food and shelter. Getting children ready for a new school year creates additional financial pressure. For over nine years Penquis has joined efforts with business, media and community partners to provide help to families that need assistance getting their children ready for school.
Penquis, Blueberry Broadcasting, Mike and Mike from Kiss 94.5 and participating Dunkin Donuts have joined efforts once again to launch the Tools for School Backpack Drive. This year the goal of the Tools for School Drive is to raise 1,000 backpacks to ensure that all students K-12 in Penquis’ service area have a backpack for the upcoming school year.
One parent stated, “It is hard to send your kids back to school without a backpack or supplies because you needed the money to buy food to feed your family.” If you would like to hear more comments from parents that receive help from this program visit www.penquis.org and select the Donate button for Tools for School and look for “What Parents are Saying”.
Individuals or businesses that would like to participate in this cause can donate at the Penquis website www.penquis.org or drop off a donation at the Penquis office located at 262 Harlow St. in Bangor, or at Blueberry Broadcasting or during one of the live broadcasts at participating Dunkin Donuts. When visiting participating Dunkin Donuts, customers will find a “Tools for School” donation box and all gifts are appreciated.
Families in need of a backpack for their child/children can register online at www.penquis.org by selecting the Register Here for Back to School Supplies button. Registrations will be accepted until August 13th. If families do not have the ability to register online they can call Penquis at 973-3500 or 1-800-215-4942 to be registered.
For more information on how you can support this community effort contact Renae Muscatell, Community Relations Manager for Penquis, at 973-3558 or firstname.lastname@example.org or drop by one of the live radio broadcasts hosted by Kiss 94.5 and The Bear.
