BANGOR, Maine — The Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau and presenting sponsor, Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway, has announced the winners of the 2014 Tourism and Hospitality Eagle Awards.

Dennis Food and Paper Services are the winners of the Organizational Achievement Eagle Award; George Brountas will receive the Lifetime Achievement Eagle Award; Larry Killam will be receiving the Individual Achievement Eagle Award; and Bangor Police Department will receive the GBCVB Impact Eagle Award. The awards will be handed out during the 19th Annual Tourism Awards Event & Silent Auction.

“The GBCVB has been privileged to work with the many professionals in our communities and across the state who truly understand that tourism is not only a great economic development tool but is also a strong piece of what makes our region unique and vibrant,” said GBCVB Board Chair Lee Speronis, in a press release. “There have been many great people and organizations honored over the past 19 years. Thank you to all the community members that have given the organization a helping hand.”

Representatives for the award winners were on hand at a media event held on Thursday, February 20 at Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway in Bangor. Each of the award winners have had a significant impact on the community, local economy and hospitality industry.

“In order for people to spend their hard earned money and valuable time to make a conscious decision to attend a major event, they really need to have the assurance of safety,” said Heather McCarthy, Executive Director for the American Folk Festival. “Without the skillful planning and execution of safe procedures of the Bangor Police Department, the American Folk Festival would struggle to find a way to ensure that safety for the roughly 100,000 festival-goers who attend this event annually from all across the country. Their work is a significant piece of the entertainment puzzle in Bangor, and they do it without hesitation and in the best interests of this City and this region. The American Folk Festival congratulates the Bangor PD on being a very deserving award recipient this year.”

In addition to the Eagle Awards, the GBCVB will also be awarding two Eaglet Awards; the Maureen Waltz Spirit of Hospitality award and Tourism Employee of the Year, as well as the Volunteer of the Year award. These focus on the frontline workers in the tourism industry who offer exceptional customer service and/or community service and involvement. Nominations for these awards are being accepted now, and winners will be surprised with the award on the night of the ceremony.

The awards ceremony is set for Tuesday, May 6, at Spectacular Event Center in Bangor, and tickets are now available.
