Golden Globe snubs

Which of your favorite films or performances of 2009 were overlooked by the Golden Globes (and potentially will be overlooked by the Oscars)?  Here are my thoughts:

The Best Picture-Drama choices leave out the equally impressive sci-fi film “District 9″ in favor of “Avatar.”  Is there only one science fiction spot available when most years have historical dramas or character driven indies receiving 2 or 3 of the possible 5 slots?  This is a major oversight for a well-respected picture by audiences and critics.

Best Picture-Comedy should have included “The Proposal,” especially since Sandra Bullock received a nod for Best Actress in a Comedy.  The zombie comedy “Zombieland” should have also been a strong contender, as should Disney’s “The Princess & the Frog” (despite the fact it received a nomination in the animation section).

Cameron Diaz was grossly overlooked as the overbearing but affectionate mother in “My Sister’s Keeper,” as a nominee in the Best Actress in a Drama category.  Amy  Adams deserved a best actress in a comedy nomination as Amelia Earhart in “Night at the Museum 2,” especially when a slot went to Julia Roberts in the awful “Duplicity.”

Perhaps Johnny Depp deserved a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in “Public Enemies” or Sharlto Copley in “District 9″?  How about the performances of Zachary Quinto as Spock in “Star Trek” or Jackie Earle Haley (Rorsach) or Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian) in “Watchmen”?  Maybe a best supporting actor nod for one of these guys?

Lastly, how about considering J.J. Abrams’s contributions as director for making “Star Trek” exciting again or a nomination for “District 9″ ‘s able filmmaker?

While overall the Golden Globe list is relatively fair; these are places where there is room for a differing of opinion.
