The Y and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine are pleased to name Denise Gianini of Manchester as the Program Director for the collaborative Reach and Rise mentoring program. The program will provide an opportunity for youth ages 6-12 with caring mentors to help them succeed academically and socially.
The Y and Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine applied for and received the national grant as part of Big Brothers Big Sister’s expansion into Kennebec and Somerset counties. The grant also further solidifies the partnership between the community leading non-profits whose complementary programming provides opportunities for youth of all ages and backgrounds in the area to succeed in life.
Gianini comes with a passion and personal connection to mentoring. She is a recent Master of Social Work graduate from The University of Maine and a 2008 graduate of The University of Maine at Farmington where she received a B.A. in Psychology.
She spent 5 years as a Big Sister herself and looks forward to using this experience to provide support to those involved in the program. Her experience working with various nonprofits across Maine communities spans the areas of reproductive health, aging and mental health.
Denise is very excited to begin her social work career doing such meaningful, empowering work which helps to foster healthy relationships that often make lifelong, positive changes in people’s lives. She will be based at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine office at the Alfond Youth Center in Waterville.
