George Bales outlook on life

Posted March 25, 2013, at 9:14 p.m.

George Robert Bales of Portland, Maine is active and alert at the age of 105 years old plus two months and one day.

“It is almost like I entered a new world after I turned 100″, said George who continues to display a phenominal memory. “With all the new advanced technology plus global warming, it seems entirely different since I was a little boy”.

George receives frequent visits from family and friends, but he remains fairly independent for the most part.

“I can still do some of the things that I’ve always been doing my whole life, along with a little help”, said George.

Due to deteriorating eyesight and hearing along with increasing frailty, George is not as independent as he used to be, but is still independent for a 105 year old.

He still is an avid reader, and reads novels like Moby Dick, Gary Paulsen, and especially Shakespeare. He also reads the daily newspapers with a magnifying glass.

He also watches the news and good movies on television. But he has to use headphones and turns up the volume at its loudest because his hearing is failing so badly.

George was most recently hospitalized in February with mild dehydration, but he bounced back.

“I have my ups and downs like everyone else, but they don’t bother me that much”.
