June 7, 2014 was a big day for sixteen Aroostook County students. The Gauvin Scholars, the students awarded the Aroostook Aspirations Scholarship and programming resources, attended a celebration of their success at the Aroostook Centre Mall on June 7th. They also received an incredible surprise!

PenAir donated a round trip ticket to any of their East coast locations to each Gauvin Scholar. Many students have yet to travel outside of Aroostook, and most have not traveled outside of Maine. In the words of one Scholar, “This is incredible, just, I don’t know, incredible!”

Aroostook Aspirations Initiative awards one $1,000 scholarship, renewable for one year, to one senior from every Aroostook high school. The Gauvin Scholar program includes the financial support and guidance, programming, and mentoring support as well. To learn more, or to donate to the Initiative, visit www.gauvinfund.org
