John Heliker, "Sketch of a Young Clamdigger," 1990, oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches.

Join us at Courthouse Gallery Fine Art on Friday, August 15 at 6pm for a Gallery Talk on John Heliker. We are pleased to welcome guest speaker Martica Sawin, who will have a conversation with Heliker-LaHotan director Patricia Bailey on the work and career of John Heliker. Heliker’s work is currently on exhibition at the gallery through September 14. Heliker was a prominent New York artist, who spent his summers in Maine, beginning in the mid-1950s when he purchased an old sea captain’s house on Great Cranberry. Heliker took great pleasure in island life, and felt more alive and at home on Cranberry, believing he did his best work on the island.
