BAR HARBOR — Have dinner and share recipes with famed gardener, writer and master cook Barbara Damrosch at the Jesup Memorial Library, then stay for a slideshow and talk about “The Four Season Farm Gardener’s Cookbook: From the Garden to the Table in 120 Recipes” on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The potluck begins at 5:45 p.m. and the slideshow, talk and book signing start at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to both events, and attendees are encouraged to bring a dish and a recipe to share. Sherman’s book store, co-sponsor of this event, will be on hand with copies of the cookbook for purchase that evening.

Ms. Damrosch and her husband Eliot Coleman are two of the foremost organic gardeners (and writers about organic gardening) in America. They own and operate an experimental market garden in Harborside on the Blue Hill Peninsula, which produces vegetables year-round and has become a nationally recognized model of small-scale sustainable agriculture.

The duo collaborated on “The Four Season Farm Cookbook,” which is two books in one: a complete resource for creating an organic garden, and a cookbook for making the most of the harvest. Many of the recipes can be made at any time of year by adapting them to what’s in season.

Ms. Damrosch writes a weekly column for The Washington Post called “A Cook’s Garden” and is the author of “The Garden Primer” and “Theme Gardens.” Mr. Coleman has more than 40 years of experience in all aspects of organic farming, including field vegetables, greenhouse vegetables, rotational grazing of cattle and sheep, and range poultry. He is the author of “The New Organic Grower,” “Four Season Harvest” and the “Winter Harvest Handbook.”

This is a must-attend event for anyone who gardens, cooks or likes to eat!
