Friends in Action has announced its expanded Senior Food Bank program, which serves elderly residents of Hancock County. The new service supplements the commodities program for low-income people 60 and older that is offered through Eastern Agency on Aging and which FIA helps distribute in the area at its center on a monthly basis. Friends in Action has become a partner agency with Good Shepherd Food Bank, in order to better serve the older adults in Hancock County who are facing food insecurity because of age, income or chronic illness. Friends in Action also partners through local food pantries through the Hancock County Food Pantry Network to enhance their programs for seniors. Older adults may receive a pre-packed bag of food and fresh produce when available. Produce is generally available during the first week of the month. The food is available bi-weekly, by appointment, and can be delivered to those with no transportation. For more information call Friends in Action at 664-6016.
