PORTLAND, Maine — Bernstein Shur, one of northern New England’s largest law firms, announced the selection of Frederick L. Lipp as practice group leader of the firm’s Business Law Practice Group. Lipp will be responsible for the leadership of more than thirty corporate and commercial attorneys and will share duties with co-chair Anthony E. Perkins.
Lipp, a shareholder in the firm and member of the Business Law Practice Group since 2000, has focused his practice on the handling of transactions for corporations, financial institutions, non-profit foundations, and private families in the U.S. and internationally. During more than two decades as a business attorney, Lipp has led the privatization of Maine’s wholesale liquor business, developed strategies for key M&A ventures, and furthered the interests of both multi-generational enterprises and NYSE-traded companies.
Bernstein Shur’s CEO, Pat Scully, remarked in a press release: “Fred was chosen to lead our business team based on his excellence in corporate practice and his sharp understanding of clients’ objectives—whether they be U.S.-based companies opening new sales offices in Maine or in Latin America, or foreign entities investing in this country. He knows how to get the very best out of his team and bring commercial parties together to close complex deals—and always with respect and patience for everyone involved.”
A resident of New Gloucester, Maine, Lipp earned his JD from the University of Maine School of Law and his BA from Bowdoin College, magna cum laude. He is chair of the MSBA International Practice Section. In 2012 Lipp received the Sumner T. Bernstein Award reflecting the firm’s highest honor for pro bono service.
Bernstein Shur has more than 100 attorneys and offices in Maine and New Hampshire, USA. Founded in 1915, the firm provides practical and innovative counsel in the areas of corporate and securities law, tax, real estate, and intellectual property matters for clients throughout the region and around the world.
