MACHIAS, Maine — Students in the art program at Down East Correctional Facility will be the featured artists at the August First Friday Art Walk reception at the gallery in the Machias Bay Chamber of Commerce.

Of the many wonderful artists exhibited at the Chamber gallery over the past year, the inmates’ show has been the most popular. Their works range from pencil drawings, to pastels, to oils and acrylics. One of the men that will be exhibiting has created impressive works of art from various colored pieces of wood. A reception will be held during the walk, which the inmates will attend.

The First Friday Art Walk is held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at various locations throughout the downtown area of Machias. Businesses on the walk will display a green flag if they are open. Participating businesses include Woodwind Gallery, Machias Art and Antiques, The French Cellar, Machias Bay Chamber of Commerce, Whole Life Market, Columbia Falls Pottery, Down East Conservation Foundation, and the Machias Grange. Weather permitting, vendors often set up along the sidwalks in the area.
