PORTLAND, Maine — NEWS CENTER’s eighth annual Feed Maine Food Drive held at Hannaford locations at Auburn, Augusta, Bangor, Sanford and Scarborough netted more than 12,000 pounds of food and cash donations of nearly $17,000.
All donations supported the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.
“This event is tremendouslymeaningful for us and for the 600 partner organizations we serve across the entire state. And most importantly, this event makes a big difference for the hundreds of thousands of Mainers who are struggling with hunger. The food and money we collected on May 4th will go directly toward providing food for our neighbors in need. This year we are able to provide more than 77,000 meals thanks to Feed Maine,” Good Food Shepherd Food Bank said in a prepared statement.
“Once again, the NEWS CENTER community love was on display at our Feed Maine food drive,” said Steve Carter, president and general manager of WCSH 6, in a press release. “It is always inspiring to see the large number of people who turn out to help our neighbors in need. The food and cash donations collected this weekend will go a long way to help fight hunger in Maine.”
All through the months of May and June, Hannaford Supermarkets will accept donations for Good Shepherd Food-Bank at check-out registers. Contributions can also be made to the Good Shepherd Food-Bank at http://gsfb.org/.
