BANGOR, Maine —  Launch into Summer Family Night will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Challenger Learning Center of Maine, 30 Venture Way.

Summer in Maine is all about light and heat and water.  At Challenger’s Launch into Summer Family Night participants will have fun conducting experiments, taking on challenges, and sharing activities that will make them look at light in a whole new way! Challenger is teaming with the UMaine School of Marine Resources to bring you activity stations based on the following topics: – Physics of Sunlight — perfect to know during the longest days of the year. – Light Scattering with Lasers — need we say more? – Take your colored flashlight, shine it into colored water — what is THAT? – Upside-down viewing pleasure all summer long — pin hole viewers. – Light is made for bending — isn’t it? – Find out how fiber optics work — there’s no escape! – How manycolorsmakewhite? You’ll be spinning for the answer.

Launch into Summer is made possible with support by NASA’s Planetary Science Division and the National institute of Aerospace.  FREE ADMISSION – donations accepted to support Challenger’s mission to inspire Maine students. Slices of ANGELO’S PIZZA are being served. Activities are recommended for participants age 5+. Each participating child will receive a special science gift in celebration of summer.
