Falmouth artist chosen for 2014 Monhegan Island art residency

MONHEGAN ISLAND, Maine — Falmouth artist Jan ter Weele has been selected for the 2014 Monhegan Island art residency.

He will be painting in the Shumaker studio on the island this fall Sept. 6-Oct. 9. An open studio will be held Oct. 8 at which time the paintings he has completed on the island will be on exhibit.

Ter Weele’s work has been in gallery shows in Portland and elsewhere. The George Marshall Store gallery in York will be showing his paintings Oct. 11-Nov. 16.

Ter Weele was born in The Netherlands. He studied at Maine College of Art, Massachusetts College of Art, and the Art Students League of New York.

The residency program on Monhegan is run by a non-profit corporation under a board of directors headed by Susan Danly. She was formerly a curator at the Portland Museum of Art.
