Rockport, Maine, April 08, 2011: The Everyman Repertory Theatre announces the new cast for its Rockport Opera House and “Drama in Schools” tour of Moliere’s classic French farce, The Miser. “We have a number of new actors working with the company, as well as performers we have worked with in the past,” said Everyman’s artistic director Paul Hodgson. “Scott Sortman, an Equity actor, joins us for the first time as La Flèche, Jim Lattin makes his first Everyman appearance as Valère, and Everyman newcomer Evan Sposato plays Cléante. On the other hand, Ashley (Private Lives, 84 Charing Cross Road) St. Pierre returns as Elise, Gaslight veteran Abby Norman plays Mariane, Randall Merrifield emerges from backstage (props on 84 Charing Cross Road) to play the detective, and founder Jennifer Hodgson plays matchmaker Frosine.”
The compact set (“We’re moving this into and out of high school stages in under an hour!”) has been designed by John Bielenberg, and the lighting design is by Tom Sadowski. Julie Lyman is producing the show and David Troup directs.
Dates at the Rockport Opera House are April 22, 23, 29, 30 at 7.30pm, and April 24 and May 1 Sunday matinees at 2pm. “We have to break set in the middle of the week to get into Camden Hill’s busy Strom Auditorium, but the rest of the school dates are in May, sometimes requiring an early 7am start (not a time of the morning that actors are at their best). And, of course, we all have to take time off our day jobs to perform during the school day, so it’s quite a commitment from a great cast.” Schools on the tour include Camden Hills, Mt View in Thorndike, Rockland HS, George’s Valley, Medomak, Belfast. Area private schools and the island schools have been invited to attend existing dates. Volunteers to help pitch and strike the set would be most welcome.
Tickets are available at HAVII and Owl and Turtle in Camden, Yo Mama’s in Belfast, and Rock City Books and Coffee in Rockland as well as online at the Everyman Rep’s website www.everymanrep.org and box office (207) 236 0173.
