Bangor, Maine. On Friday evening, August 22, 7:00 pm at Husson University, Dr. Ron Sider, founder of Evangelicals for Social Action and Professor of Theology at Palmer Theological Seminary in PA, will kick off a weekend conference on the role of the church in addressing the social problems facing American communities.
Dr. Sider has written over 30 books, the best known of which is, Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger. He calls Evangelicals to a new paradigm of worship – one that moves us beyond providing relief and toward building development ministries. The theme of his address will be, “Turning the Page on Social Justice”.
A panel of community leaders will follow Dr. Sider and offer insights as to how the church in general might broaden its outreach to help address the problems of crime, poverty and homelessness in downtown Bangor and beyond.
Dr. Sider will preach at Columbia Street Baptist Church on Sunday, August 24, at 10:15 am on the topic, “Turning the Page on Faith”. See our website cbcbangor.org for more information or call 945-6616.
