Eva McVicar named assistant director of Admissions/International Counselor

UNITY, Maine — Eva McVicar has been named Assistant Director of Admissions / International Counselor at Unity College of Unity, Maine.

McVicar will focus on increasing Unity College’s international student population by directly recruiting international students and supporting the admissions office in reaching its overall goals.

An experienced education professional, McVicar most recently served as Admission Coordinator / Regional Manager with Gioba Education of Portland, Maine and Prague, Czech Republic, where she recruited new academic clients for faculty-led business programs in Central Europe. She also developed and maintained relationships with faculty and study abroad staff, collaborating with them on the development of new programs and internships.

McVicar has also served as Exchange Program Coordinator / German High School Teacher at Merriconeag Waldorf High School in New Glouster, Maine; was an Admissions Coordinator with US University Consulting of Portland, Maine / Prague, Czech Republic and served as Co-Chair of CNS School, also of Portland, Maine. Her experience also includes serving as Managing Editor at Heinrich Bauer Verlag of Hamburg, Germany.

Multilingual and highly proficient in four languages, McVicar holds a Master of Arts in German Language and Literature / Physical Education from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic; and has studied at the University of Southern Maine.

In recent years Unity College has gained national attention for a variety of achievements including: its focus on sustainability science, the leading-edge of 21st century ecological problem solving and the vanguard in the fight for the mitigation of global climate change; its ground-breaking “green” innovations such as the award-winning TerraHaus, the first student residence on a college or university campus built to the Passive House standard, the most energy efficient building standard in the world; and for being the first college in the United States to divest from investments in fossil fuels, igniting a growing national movement in higher education.
