MILBRIDGE, Maine – The fifth annual Elaine Hill Memorial Walk and 5K Run will be held in Milbridge on Saturday, Oct. 19, rain or shine. This event, sponsored by the Women’s Health Resource Library, is meant for competitive and recreational runners alike. A one-mile Fun Run begins at 9:30 am and the 5K Race/Walk begins at 10 am. Registration/check-in starts at 9 am at the Town Marina on Bay View Road.
The entrance fee is $10 for the 5K and $5 for the Fun Run. Pre-registration by mail is open until Oct. 10. Participants are encouraged to collect donations from non-walkers. Contributions of any size are welcome. Have a group of friends ready to run/walk? Sign-up a team.
The fastest of the fast will receive awards and the first 30 registrants will receive free T-shirts (adult sizes only). The individual and team that raise the most donations will receive prizes. Once the race is over, participants will enjoy a cookout for their hard efforts.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Elaine Hill Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Elaine Hill died in February of 2009 after a battle with breast cancer. She is remembered for her life of service as a nurse at the Milbridge Medical Center for more than 30 years. In her memory, the Women’s Health Resource Library established a nursing scholarship. Each year a scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Narraguagus High School and a non-traditional student pursuing a nursing education.
