An Earth Day clean-up of Card Brook will be held Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to noon beginning behind Hannaford on High Street. The event is hosted by the City of Ellsworth Planning Department.
Volunteers are needed and will work as a group to collect litter along the section of stream flowing between High Street and Water Street. Card Brook is a tributary of the Union River that receives stormwater runoff from most of the parking lots, roofs, and roads along High Street. The brook recently became classified as an impaired water body by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and work gloves. Trash bags, disposable gloves, water, and snacks will be provided. To sign up or for more information, contact Elena Piekut at 669-6615 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
