Did you know that people buy and sell eagle feathers, claws, and parts? Cooper and Packrat didn’t, either. But they’re learning fast. When the boys find a box of valuable eagle parts, they soon realize that the owner will stop at nothing to get them back. Follow the adventure in “Mystery of the Eagle’s Nest”, a new middle-grade mystery from author Tamra Wight, coming August 18 from Islandport Press.
Wight will be celebrating the release of her new book on Sunday, August 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Poland Spring Campground, 128 Connor Lane, Poland. She will read from her book, there will be an art activity for children and a book signing, and, of course, there will be s’mores!
As a very special part of the program, Hope Douglas from Wind Over Wings will do a live bird presentation. Two owls will greet visitors as they arrive, and Douglas will introduce a raven and a golden eagle, share the story of their new bald eagle and her training, and answer questions about the birds.
Advance praise is coming in for “Mystery of the Eagle’s Nest,” which has already been chosen as a Fall 2014 Junior Library Guild selection. Kirkus Reviews says, “The well-plotted story with spot-on kid dialogue will have readers alternately laughing and puzzling out the mystery . . . This mystery soars while the feathers and fun fly.”
“Mystery of the Eagle’s Nest” is the second Cooper and Packrat adventure, a follow-up to last year’s well-received “Mystery on Pine Lake.” Wight has written another fast-paced eco-adventure story set at a campground much like Poland Spring Campground, which she runs with her family. Every summer, at the campground, she meets interesting families from all over the world, and this helps inspire her to write the Cooper and Packrat books. During the school year, she works as a teaching assistant at Whittier Middle School in Poland. She is also the author of “The Three Grumpies” (illustrated by Ross Collins). The third Cooper and Packrat adventure, “Mystery of the Missing Fox,” is due out in Spring 2016.
