The Dover Foxcroft Historical Society will celebrate its 50th birthday on Friday, July 4th. The celebration takes place at the Blacksmith Shop Museum in Dover Doxcroft from 10am to 3pm.

During the celebration, there will be a grand opening of the new forge, tours of the blacksmith shop, and blacksmith demonstrations by Adriaan Gerber. Adriaan is originally from South-Africa but moved to Maine for a fresh start. Blacksmithing and knifemaking became a full time passion for Adriaan, remaining so for over eight years now. Adriaan specializes in creating traditional tools and weaponry- bearded axes, halberds, swords and knives. He teaches knifemaking classes and has even taught a 14-year old boy to forge his own sword.
