STATEWIDE, Maine — Across the nation, people and their dogs are hitting the trail in May. Join them in supporting the Dog Scouts of America and their mission of responsible dog ownership. Dog Scouts of America’s programs help keep dogs in lifelong, happy homes with responsible owners. Support Maine’s Downeast Dog Scouts Troop by supporting the Dog Scouts of America’s Second Annual Hike-A-Thon during May/
Pick a certain date to do a hike or count the miles hiked during the entire month. The locations are chosen by participants.
Anyone in the world can participate in the fundraiser by getting pledges and donations. Participants can choose to do the miles on foot, in a wheelchair, on a bike or any other way that gets you and your dog out to enjoy nature and get fit. It is assumed participants will complete the miles with their dogs, but if you don’t have a dog or your dog is too old, you can still participate. You can participate in memory of a favorite dog as well.
Those who raise at least $50 will be sent an official DSA hike-a-thon patch and a small “2012” patch in matching colors. Those who raise more than $100 will also be sent a heather grey T-shirt that says “Take a hike! And support Dog Scouts of America” on the back, including the patch design with the DSA logo on the front.
Donations to the hike-a-thon are tax deductible.
The hike-a-thon proceeds also help support the Dog Scouts of America in its efforts to support its members, troops and the general public.
