Dentists With a Heart

October 29, 2012 – Press Release

Oral health has a significant impact on a person’s overall health, self-confidence, and employability, and yet many people in our community have no insurance to pay for dental care. Thanks to many volunteer dentists working with the Knox County Dental Program, 50 patients received much needed dental services. These procedures relieve patients from extreme pain and infection, improve their nutrition, and cosmetically enhance their job opportunities, significantly impacting their overall health and ability to work.

On October 12th, 11 dentists and about 25 hygienists, assistants, and receptionists volunteered and saw over 50 Knox County Dental Program patients for restorative care and extractions. Participating dentists in Dentists with a Heart included Dr. Barbour, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Endl, Dr. Hersom, Dr. Jordan, Dr. Kingsley, Dr. Medina, Dr. Pier, Dr. Sarka, Dr. Singer, and Dr. Theriault. In total, they donated services valued at more than $36,000 dollars!

Participating offices saw a significant number of patients in severe need of dental care, and in many cases their entire staff volunteered to make it happen. Local business, Mason’s Creations in Thomaston, helped the Knox County Health Clinic say thank you by donating cupcakes for each of the dental offices. Many thanks to all who were involved in this day, and to the many who volunteer throughout the year!

The Dental Program is part of the Knox County Health Clinic non-profit that offers low-cost medical, dental, prescription assistance, and mental health services to Knox County, Waldoboro and Lincolnville. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to the Knox County Health Clinic, 22 White Street, Rockland ME 04841. All services are by appointment, for more information on the clinic please call 594-6996 or visit our website at
