Eastport Arts Center will host a dance performance by Hadar Ahuvia on Thursday, August 29th. Ahuvia is an Israeli American, the daughter of kibbutzniks, the granddaughter of the kibbutz’s founders, a Jewish educator, a lover and a challenger of Jewish traditions and institutions. In the piece to be performed, titled Joy Vey, Ahuvia uses song and dance as a way of owning and reconciling with a Zionist legacy. Letting go of personal and national myths that are no longer serving her, she mourns their consequences, and where possible, rekindles joy in what remains.
Hadar Ahuvia is a performer and choreographer presenting work in New York City since 2010. She deals with various socially charged subjects through physical research, in both solo and collaborative practice. She grew up in Israel and Florida, was trained in San Francisco, and earned a BA from Sarah Lawrence College. She works for several NYC based choreographers and has presented her own work at venues such as EMPAC (Troy, NY) and Dance Theater Workshop/NYLA (NYC).
