BANGOR, Maine — Thomas School of Dance will offer master classes with guest teacher Christian Claessens on Friday and Saturday, June 14-15.
Claessens has performed with Kansas City Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and the Dutch National Ballet. As a soloist, he toured internationally in ballet companies, including Stars of the American Ballet, Stars of the New York City Ballet, Stars of the Hong Kong Ballet and Kozlov and Friends. He has appeared on television and in film. He founded the Scarsdale Ballet Studio with New York City Ballet soloist Diane White and served as director and master teacher there for 15 years. Claessens is on the faculty at the Jacob School of Music-Ballet Department at Indiana University.
Claessens will teach master classes Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, at Thomas School of Dance at 14 State St. Friday classes will be held 3:30-5:30 p.m. for upper level intermediate and advanced level dancers, and 5:30-7 p.m. for basic and lower intermediate dancers. Classes on Saturday will be held 9:30-11 a.m. for basic and lower intermediate levels, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for upper intermediate and advanced level dancers. Upper level classes will include pointe work for female dancers.
To encourage all area dancers to take advantage of this opportunity the fee for master classes will be $20 for the two-hour class and $15 for the 90-minute class.
