Sunday, May 20 in Presque Isle approximately 45 people participated in a walk to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. According to their website (www.cff.org), “Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States . . . . The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been the driving force behind the pursuit of a cure.” In the mid 20th Century, few children with the disease lived to be old enough to go to school. Now with advances in treatment, many of these people can expect to live into their 30s and beyond.
Kathy Levesque, team leader of the “AJM Aroostook County Team” of walkers said Kelly Lamoreau’s “Team Tucker” were a big help to the effort, and the event raised more than $6000 this year. At the end of their walk, participants were treated to a picnic lunch of hot dogs at Riverside Park. The cooks were Kelly’s dad Tom Thibodeau, Ron Beaulieu, and Kathy’s husband Dan Levesque, candidate for the Maine Democratic Senate, District 34. Kathy and Dan would like to thank all the sponsors and others who donated time and money to the effort.
