Cuba Speaker in Orono

Posted Oct. 04, 2013, at 4:32 p.m.

Diego Benitez is traveling to Orono from Queens, NYC for a mini-speaker’s tour spreading awareness on the negative impact of U.S. foreign policy towards Cuba. Diego worked as an International Team Member with Witness for Peace in Havana, Cuba. The speaking events are bringing together neat networks of people in Maine who are working hard to bring awareness about Cuba to others. Groups include Let Cuba Live and the Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City Association.

The tour also consists of speaking events in Portland and Brunswick throughout the weekend.

I would love to discuss this opportunity with you further. We would appreciate any press coverage leading up to the event or on the afternoon of October 13th.

Thank you,

Emily Albee

Event Description: Why can’t U.S. citizens travel to Cuba? What does healthcare look like in Cuba? Is there an education infrastructure? Cuba is so much more than cigars and rum. Diego Benitez recently worked as an International Team Member with Witness for Peace in Havana, Cuba. Diego will share his experiences working with people-to-people delegations as U.S. citizens discovered the truth about an island nation that has endured over 50 years of a US travel ban and economic embargo. Please bring your questions and perceptions about Cuba for this interactive presentation.
