BANGOR, Maine — The Cross Family, founders and owners of Cross Insurance, one of the largest independent insurance providers in New England, were honored on Sept. 18 as Distinguished Citizens by the Boy Scouts of America’s Katahdin Area Council for their dedication to, and involvement with, community organizations and activities.

Cross Insurance Agency Executive Vice President Brent Cross accepted the award during the Katahdin Area Council’s 17th annual Distinguished Citizen Award dinner at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on behalf of the entire Cross Insurance family, which includes 96-year-old patriarch and Founder Woodrow Cross, President Royce Cross, and Executive Vice President Jonathan Cross.

Brent Cross currently serves on the Katahdin Area Council’s Board of Directors.

Those who receive the award are not necessarily Boy Scout volunteers, but rather individuals who personify what the Boy Scouts stand for – good citizenship, outstanding moral fiber and a dedication to others, and for living their lives by the Scout Oath and Law.

Prior Distinguished Citizens include Senator Susan Collins; former Gov. John E. Baldacci; The Cianbro Companies Chairman and CEO Peter G. Vigue; and Bangor community leaders, Nelson and Carla Durgin.
