AUGUSTA – Crisis & Counseling Centers (C&C) will celebrate recovery from mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders at the agency’s On Track to Recovery 5K Walk/Run, held Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Kennebec River Rail Trail in Augusta. This professionally timed event is open to all and will show the recovery community that their victories – both big and small – do not go unnoticed.
September marks the 25th year of Recovery Month, a national awareness campaign that promotes the benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery for mental health and substance abuse disorders. Crisis & Counseling Centers believes in dedicating a month to celebrating the achievements of the recovery community because too many people face mental illness or substance abuse issues in silence.
Crisis & Counseling Centers is an Augusta-based nonprofit serving individuals with behavioral health needs, including substance abuse, mental health and co-occurring disorders. In addition, the agency is the sole provider of crisis services for Kennebec and Somerset counties.
On Track to Recovery 5K Walk/Run will showcase the importance of seeking physical and mental wellness every day, through multiple pathways and throughout the recovery process, to achieve optimal health and well-being. Race participants will have access to free event T-shirts for adults, a special Kid Zone for youths, certificates of completion, and a post-event recovery celebration featuring guest speakers, food and prizes.
Crisis & Counseling Centers would like to thank On Track to Recovery 5K Walk/Run’s Gold Sponsors, Achilles Foot & Ankle Center, Domino’s Pizza and Pine Tree Veterinary Hospital, for their support. For a complete list of sponsors, visit crisisandcounseling.org/get-involved/5k.
Sponsorships and in-kind donations are still being accepted for the 5K Walk/Run. Contact Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator Courtney Yeager at firstname.lastname@example.org or 207.623.4523 to sponsor this community-wide event.
Early bird adult registration will be available for $15 per person through Aug. 22. Thereafter, regular-priced adult admittance will be $20. The registration fee for children, age 2-11, is $5. Teams of five can register for a reduced rate of $70, and C&C clients also receive a discounted price. To register for On Track to Recovery 5K Walk/Run, visit ontracktorecovery5k.eventbrite.com.
Check-in for the professionally timed walk/run will begin at 9 a.m., and the race will start at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Participants will convene near the Kennebec Valley YMCA, 31 Union Street, where Capitol Park meets the head of the Kennebec River Rail Trail in Augusta.
