CALAIS, Maine — Brianna Jack, founder of the non-profit Maine Books for Maine Kids, recently stopped by Calais Regional Hospital to donate 50 new books to the CRH Emergency Department Toy Box Drive. Emergency Department Director, Krista Collins, RN, accepted the books on behalf of the department. Department staff conduct the toy drive to be able to provide items of distraction when a child, or a child’s loved one, is a patient in the ED. The items are small, but comforting during a sometimes frightening experience.

The non-profit was started by 9 year old Woodland native, Brianna Jack so she could share her love of books with other Maine children. The books she brought to the hospital are all books about Maine and by Maine authors. The books are sure to put a smile on the faces of the hospital’s youngest patients and visitors!
