The American Cowboy Quick Draw (ACQD) Championship will take place Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26th, at the Fort Knox State Historic site.
The event is being organized by the local ACQD affiliate known as the Winterport Rangers, led by Will Cotton. The tentative schedule for the event
is listed below:
8:30 Registration opens, gun check opens. Main Match will begin no later than
9:30AM All firearms and equipment must be checked before then.
9:00 Opening ceremony and safety meeting
9:30 Main match begins
Noon-1 PM Break for lunch
1PM Contest continues until last seven shooters are determined.
10:00 Championship format begins and ends when placements are completed. A one-hour break before Award Ceremony. Anticipation that the event will close around 2-2:30PM
A statement about the purpose of the organization from their web site follows: This association was formed to promote the fun sport of cowboy style shooting, using wax bullets over primers in a quick draw type format,and using 1800’s era weapons with modern timing equipment to measure your shot against your opponent to see who would win the shootout.
Our association is a sport for all ages and gender, with our simple rules and pay structure you will not be shooting for financial gain, you will be competing for your own betterment and satisfaction that a well placed and quick timed shot gets you the win.
Also, taking place on Saturday, May 25, from 2 PM to 4 PM, will be the launch of a new book entitled, Haunted Fort- The spooky side of Fort Knox.
The book’s author, Liza Gardner Walsh, will be on site in the Fort Visitor Center, to sign copies of her new book.
