COA’s second annual fundraising blitz raised $84,295.51
BAR HARBOR, ME – A donor to College of the Atlantic offered a challenge – collect 642 gifts in 24 hours and receive $24,000 – and by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, March 4, COA had met and exceeded that challenge. In total, the fundraising effort received 729 gifts in the span of 24 hours, raising $48,295.51, and thanks to all the outpouring of support from the COA community, the college will receive an additional $36,000 from two generous donors.
“Last year was our first time with this particular donor challenge,” said COA’s Dean of Advancement, Lynn Boulger. “We are such a small school, so we set what we thought was an impressive goal: 240 gifts in 24 hours. But in fact, we blew that out of the water with 641 gifts. So our donor said that they would do the challenge again – but we had to beat last year. A second donor said he would add an additional $12,000 if we were to make our goal, which really spurred the last hours of the challenge.”
Donors to the 2014 24-Hour Challenge included:
376 COA alumni
97 current COA students
71 COA faculty and staff members
The 24-Hour Challenge strategically happens at the time of year most critical for giving a final big fundraising push to the college’s annual fund goal, which is $1,005,000 for fiscal year 2014. With the help of this year’s challenge, close to $700,000 has been raised toward the annual fund, which brings much needed support to all programs, enhancements to the academic curriculum, student life, facility maintenance, financial aid, and community outreach.
“The day was one of the busiest days of the year and also one of the most rewarding,” noted President Darron Collins, Ph.d and alumnus. “The number and diversity of support speaks so loudly to the strength of our institution and the relevance of what and how we teach at COA.”
