CMCA celebrates 60th year with open house

ROCKPORT, Maine — The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a series of special exhibitions and events, starting with an open house 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the center, 162 Russell Ave. The event is scheduled in conjunction with the opening of the annual Camden-Rockport Student and Teacher Art Show, and will feature hands-on art activities, live performances by Casual Arcane, a “Dunk the Junk” graffiti mural by artist Mike Rich and a book signing with Fotoplay author and ArtLab instructor Marcie Jan Bronstein. The event is free and open to all.

The Student and Teacher Art Show includes work from Ashwood Waldorf School, Camden Hills Regional High School, Camden-Rockport Elementary School, Camden-Rockport Middle School, Children’s House Montessori School, the Community School, Peopleplace Cooperative Preschool and Riley School. The show and the “Dunk the Junk” mural will remain on view through Sunday, May 6.

CMCA is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m.  Sunday. Admission is by donation. For information, visit http://www.cmcanow.org.
