Fort Kent ~ Northern Maine Medical Center (NMMC) began planning early for the anticipated influx of people expected during the World Acadian Congress beginning August 8 through August 24. Not only were hospital operations geared up, but first aid services were also made available at some of the major events.

With the Emergency Response Unit in tow, NMMC clinicians were on site at the Freedom Fest 2014 and the Aero Club Air Show. The Emergency Department and Surgical Team have also ramped up staffing in order to be at a higher level of preparedness to handle emergencies. Alain Bois, NMMC’s Director of Nursing said, “We certainly hope that our services will not be needed and that everyone will celebrate safely but we want to be prepared in the event that emergency services are needed.” Walk in clinics are also being staffed during the first two pillar weekends of the Congress.
